My Night At Wycoller

For those of you who know me you will know that about 5 weeks ago I went with Christine to stay with her while she was house sitting for her brother, We were in a place called Wycoller. This is a tiny picturesque village on the boarders of Yorkshire and Lancashire England.
I live quite close to this village and it is a tourist attraction. No cars are allowed to go down to the village apart from the residents who live there. There are only half a dozen cottages.
Her brother lives in the cottage just over the pack horse bridge. This scene has been drawn and painted by many artists over the years.
I had a painting of it on my wall many years ago. I could not believe I was going to be staying in this beautiful place.
Christine’s family have been living in the village for many years and she told me that many times she was told as a little girl about how haunted the houses and the village were.
This is one of the reasons she asked me to stay with her and she was a little apprehensive about being there on her own.
There are lot of stories about the ghosts that haunt Wycoller. I think there are 3 famous ones that I know of.
There is an old ruin of Wycoller hall opposite the cottage we were staying in, it is rumoured that one of the Bronte sisters used the hall for one of her novels.
The hall was the residence of Squire Cunliffe. He brutally murdered his wife after finding her with a lover.
He is said to gallop through the village to the hall amidst blood curdling screams.Many residents and tourists have seen him and heard this over the years.
The second ghost is known to he locals as the Black Lady. The lady that is seen is of West Indian descent. She is thought to have been murdered by her husband when he decided he did not want to be married to her after bringing her back from the West Indies. She is thought to haunt the bridge and many people have seen her mournfully walking across the bridge in long black silk clothes. Christine told me that when her family used to have parties they used to dare one another to walk across the bridge at midnight. Any brave soul who managed to do this was bought back trembling screaming or very much shaken after what they had seen.
The third haunting is that of a coach and horses clattering through the village. So this is the place that I was going to stay at for the night.
I was very excited and we all arrived at 8pm one Friday evening in September. The night was quite warm and Christine had invited me and a few of her other friends.
We were given a tour of the house. I had done some meditating before I left and wanted to know if I could see anything that evening after opening my chakras.
The cottage was completely modernised and I thought how lovely the kitchen was. It was bright and cheery. We were then shown through a door to the upstairs. I was quite startled when I walked through the door. On the stairs I could see a cavalier.
At first it was just a dark shadow and then I saw him. He was not doing anything he was just standing there. I said to Christine can you see that? She said “yes I know some one is standing there”. We went up to the bedroom and there was a very eerie feel about the place. The building was very old. I think it was built around the 1600’s. The windows were small deep ones that you see in castles sometimes.
The light was minimal and there was a gloom everywhere. We returned to the kitchen where we were having drinks and nibbles. For some reason and strange for those of you who know me! I did not feel like drinking. I was feeling a little removed from everyone.
I had not taken my tarot cards with me. The girls asked me if I could do anything else. One of the girls there I had done a private reading for. She was a bit negative when I read for her. She actually lied about a lot of things when I read for her before. Christine had told me my reading was totally correct. I looked at her hand . I looked and I could not see anything.
She shrugged and said it did not matter. I asked my guide for help. I looked up and said help me with this one. I do not do readings without my cards usually. I just felt like I wanted to prove something to her as she was quite sceptical. I then got the name Tim. I said to her are you seeing a Tim? She looked a bit stunned. She said well no but…I said to her I can see him at your house. He and you are drinking. She said no way he a womaniser I would not dream of going any where near him! I said I am sorry but I see him in your house. Christine told me later that her friend had just started seeing him and she was having an affair with him. What I had seen was what had happened a week before.
Nobody new about this apart from Christine her friend and Tim. I then started reading for everyone. If I tried to ignore the names coming to me they kept repeating it until I said does anyone know an Enid or a Joe? I had messages for all the girls there. I am not going to go into it all as some messages were personal to these people and I had never met them before.
All he names and messages that came to me were correct. We turned in that night and I slept soundly. Christine heard someone shouting her name the whole night.
Well that is my paranormal experience at this wonderful haunted village. I will tell you of my experiences when I go to my next one. I have been talking to Claire one of our members about us going some where else. Perhaps I can get some pictures or video evidence. I did video Wycoller on my phone but cannot post it on the site unfortunately. Until next time…….
